WHADDUP?

I really thought when I started this blog that I would be devoted to it.  I was wrong.

I don't know what happened, exactly.  I guess nothing happened.

My bad.

I've been waiting for things to happen when I should have been making things happen.

Let's see what I can do about that, shall we?

FRED WALDEN IN THE HOUSE!

This past Saturday, Fred Walden visited with the Babbler and Erick Sweetwater.  Freddie was a great guest.  We learned that he was once a "jug hustler" and that he's a frustrated blues and rockabilly musician.  He's been to multiple concerts, from Jerry Lee Lewis to Motley Crue to Madonna to Nine Inch Nails and Manson, and he hasn't had a professional haircut in 41 years.

We talked about John Arnold, Johnny Johnson, and Uncle Joe.  Freddie also told us his preferred method of execution.

You can listen to the show using the BlogTalkRadio player widget in the upper right corner of this page.

ON AIR JUNE 3, 2010, 10PM

The Babbler is happy to announce that we will be doing our first real broadcast Thursday, June 3, 2010, at 10:00 pm central time.  The guest will be Shelia Hamlin Lazar of Norman, OK, an old friend of the Babbler's.  Shelia will be talking about her experiences in the happenin' music scene of eighties Norman.

If other topics come up in conversation, so be it.

Be prepared!  The show will be absolutely unprofessional.  I barely survived the test show we did two nights ago (you can hear for it yourself by using the widget in the upper right of this page) and I'm sure we will have our share of glitches to iron out Thursday night.  But that's part of the fun!

So, Thursday night at 10:00 pm, go to www.BlogTalkRadio.com, search for Okie Babble and listen to the show with Shelia Hamlin Lazar.  You can even call (646) 721-9305 with questions or comments.

WHO IS OKIE BABBLE?

I am no one special.

But I believe that the people I know are special.

Those that we meet in our every day lives have stories to tell. There are interesting facts about everyone that no one would guess upon first glance.

One of Okie Babble's Facebook friends had her pilot's license at 16 but didn't get her driver's license until she was 18 (not because she couldn't drive but because she was grounded from using the car).

Another FB friend worked as a DJ in a strip club when he was 13 or 14.

Another friend lived for 8 years on the prison property in McAlester where her father was chaplain.

And yet another friend is married to a former employee of Jefferson Airplane.

What's your story?

3 guests confirmed

Good news! The Babbler has three confirmed guests.

1st up will be Shelia Lazar, a local favorite from Norman, OK. Shelia's mother allowed her to attend rock shows when Shelia was too young to drive. Sometimes, she even made the three hour trek to Dallas. On a school night. Can you imagine? This was in the early eighties, so Shelia was witness to some great acts. She's a sassy gal that will be taking calls from listeners. You wanna know what D. Boon was like? Call and ask!

2nd show will be Fred Walden. Fred is the owner of Walden Cleaners, the second oldest business in Norman. Sounds boring right? Believe me, Fred is anything but boring. There is no telling what will come charging out of his pie hole. Call and ask him about his experiences in Mexico for those seven months he lived in south Texas. He just might tell you. And if you're really good, we'll reveal to you who his brother is. You locals who don't already know the answer will be shocked. Shocked, I tell you.

Our 3rd guest is the one-of-a-kind Jim Spurr from Shawnee. He has recently been nominated for Poet Laureate of the state of Oklahoma. But throw those poet stereotypes out the window. In fact, throw all your stereotypes out the window. Spurr defies them all. He loves Eleanor Roosevelt but he also has a film collection of which she would most certainly disapprove. At least, I think she would disapprove. You never know about people. Spurr taught me that.

Make sure and subscribe to my blog so you'll know when to catch the live podcasts.

Pleased to meet you...

I'm the Okie Babbler and I've got something to say. Problem is, I'm not quite sure what it is yet. This is my first foray into blogging, so we'll have to see how it goes.

I plan to start an audio podcast in a couple of weeks and two people have committed to being guests on my first two broadcasts. We're going live and taking callers!

Feel free to leave comments about how lame this first blog post is but, please, be gentle.
